Basics of Poker Betting
In any kind of poker (be it stud, hold'em, draw, or lowball) there is are rules on betting in every game. The betting has limits or boundaries. Poker betting could have a bet limit in every round, a limit on how much bet the pot can hold to a point and it also possible to lift this rule on how much one can bet.
In games such as the Texas Hold'em and Omaha there is a consensus that the average of bets in the first round in the lower limit of the bet and the average bet in the second round will be the upper limit. There is no need to explain no limit bets.
Pot limit is the least betting style used and is quite complicated. Say the pot bet is $5 dollars, the betting call is a bet of $5. The other player will then call for this $5 or raise the pot bet to $15. As other players raise the bet it becomes complex.
If it is one turn to bet, and preceding player has made no bet, the player's bet stand as is. If a bet was already made but is smaller to the bet made out of turn, the bet is raised. If the next bet made after a previous player is equal, the bet is a call. If the new bet is in excess of the out-of-turn bet, the extra amount is dropped and the bet is equaled.
If a player makes a bet and it is not one's turn yet, the bet must remain in the pot. Whoever does so cannot retrieve it and the proper player is reverted.
A bet once placed in the pot whether it's the player's proper turn or not must stand. This bet cannot be anymore taken out of the pot. A player cannot put into the pot an amount less than the previous bet. He given the chance to add until the need amount is met. If a player is unable to fulfill this, his hand is dead.
During a round of betting, a player must keep his word. If a player announces that bet is this much. Other players cannot go lower or higher than that oral bet. If it is not one's turn to bet and the player says an amount and has not yet placed money on the pot, the announcement is disregarded.
If a player says pass and its not one turn yet (this is before drawing of cards was done)and in one's hands are one's cards, there is no penalty. Player just waits for one's turn of play. During such turn player cannot raise should the player before him makes a bet. This is also true when player passes or checks after the draw provided a bet has not been made.
